§ Mr. Powellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will now give the correct figures for doctors qualified overseas to whom in 1971 the General Medical Council granted, respectively, full registration and temporary registration.
§ Sir K. JosephI welcome the opportunity to correct the terms of the reply which I gave to my right hon. Friend on 25th May, and regret that some of the figures I then gave were inaccurate. I understand from the General Medical Council that it granted full registration and temporary registration for the first time to, respectively, 1,750 and 1,202 doctors qualified overseas and not 1,689 and 1,114 as stated in my earlier reply. The total number of certificates of temporary registration issued was 6,712—not 6,341—of which the majority were renewals on change of employment.—[Vol. 837, c.484–5.]
