§ 46. Sir Gilbert Longdenasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she is satisfied that there will be sufficient suitable accommodation for the number of students who may be expected in universities and colleges in 1973 and thereafter; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. van StraubenzeeIn the universities the prospective growth in residential provision up to 1974–75 is in line with the University Grants Committee's estimate of the requirements. My right hon. Friend is now considering their advice on later developments. In the polytechnics residential places are expected to rise from around 5,000 in 1971 to almost double that number in 1975 and local authorities have submitted proposals for projects they would like to start in 1974–75.
