HC Deb 11 July 1972 vol 840 c305W
Mr. Trew

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the number of stonemasons in employment in 1961, 1966 and 1971, respectively.

Sir K. Joseph

I have been asked to reply.

The estimated numbers in employment in the occupation group which includes stonemasons, stone cutters and slate workers at the time of the 1961 and 1966 censuses were 17,790 and 19,270, respectively. The comparable figure from the 1971 census is not yet available.
