§ Mr. Donald Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many jobs have been created in West Central Scotland to date as a direct result of granting the area special development 238W status; and what has been the total cost so far of granting this status.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantI regret that figures for jobs created and the cost of granting special development area status to West Central Scotland are not available. However, since February, 1971, 104 industrial development certificates have been approved there for schemes of 10,000 sq. ft. and over in manufacturing industry from which the applicants estimated that 9,600 jobs would arise when the projects were complete and fully manned. This figure takes no account of jobs that may arise in the service sector.
