HC Deb 06 July 1972 vol 840 c217W
Mr. Buchanan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will consider increasing the supplementary allowances paid to students in colleges of education for periods of teaching practice undertaken during vacation.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

No. The recommended rates of supplementary allowances for work undertaken as part of a course during vacations apply to all universities and colleges in the United Kingdom; and it would be unfair to have higher rates for these particular students. The total allowance for a five-day week is £8 plus travel expenses or, for students who live at home, £5.50 plus travel expenses.
