HC Deb 06 July 1972 vol 840 c186W
22. Mr. McElhone

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he proposes to take to reduce the number of firearm licences held by people in Northern Ireland.

Mr. David Howell

A review of licensed firearms has been carried out during the past year to ensure that persons holding them had a need for the weapons concerned. It is not proposed at this time to take any new steps to reduce the number of legally held firearms but very strict control on the grant and renewal of firearm certificates is being exercised.
