HC Deb 06 July 1972 vol 840 cc199-200W

Mr. Loveridge asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he is now in a position to make a statement about further capital investment by the Central Electricity Generating Board, in the light of the Government's policy for stimulating industrial activity in development areas.

Mr. Tom Boardman

I understand that the CEGB, in accordance with its agreement to bring forward the order for its next power station, is announcing today that contracts have been placed with C. A. Parsons & Co. Ltd. for the turbo-generators and with Clarke Chapman/John Thompson Ltd. for the boilers at the Ince B power station, Cheshire. Further contracts in connection with construction of the station are likely to be placed shortly. The CEGB is also bringing forward a gas turbine station at Leicester and various transmission and research projects.

These orders will be a valuable assistance to employment in the engineering industry in development areas, particularly in the North-East.
