HC Deb 05 July 1972 vol 840 c148W
Mr. Crawshaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what instructions to deal with the problem he has issued to local authorities where analysis has shown there to be an excessive lead content in the water supply.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

My Department's standing advice to local authorities and other statutory water undertakers is that where there are lead pipes in a district, a lead-solvent drinking water should be treated to render it non-solvent. Advice has been given to medical officers of health of local authorities by the Chief Medical Officer.
