Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will give details of the present salaries received by the 48 members of his staff affected by the Boyle Committee proposals; and to what extent these salaries will rise on implementation of the Report.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

There is one permanent secretary in my Department who will have his salary increased from £14,000 to £15,750; five deputy secretaries who will have their salaries increased from £9,000 to £10,500; 15 under secretaries who will have their salaries increased from £6,750 to £8,250; and one other officer on an intermediate salary rate which will be increased by a comparable amount. There are also the President of the Industrial Arbitration Board and the presidents and chairmen of industrial tribunals whose salaries range from £10,950 to £6,850 and will also be increased by comparable amounts.
