HC Deb 04 July 1972 vol 840 c114W
Miss Fookes

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will make a statement on the admission of 18-year-olds to the Open University.

Mr. van Straubenzee

I am glad to learn that the Open University has agreed to a pilot experiment, whereby it will admit a first intake of 500 18-year-olds in January, 1974. The students will consist of two groups, one having "A" level qualifications and the other without. An announcement to this effect is being made by the University today.
