HC Deb 04 July 1972 vol 840 c99W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Attorney-General if he will arrange for the services of the Official Solicitor to be made available to Members of Parliament, on behalf of their constituents, in the execution of their parliamentary duties.

The Attorney-General

No. The Official Solicitor is an Officer of the Supreme Court, and does not act on the instructions from other individuals in relation to particular cases. His general instructions from the Lord Chancellor enable him to act on his own initiative where the interests of an individual concerned in legal proceedings require special protection.
