HC Deb 04 July 1972 vol 840 cc101-2W
Mr. John

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations the Government have received from the National Mobile Homes Association regarding security of tenure and other matters of concern to the Association; and what replies have been sent.

Mr. Eyre

The Government have from time to time received representations from the National Mobile Homes Residents Association on matters which are of concern to it. Arrangements are in train for a joint discussion of problems of mutual concern between the Association and the National Federation of Site Operators and the National Caravan Council.

Mr. John

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his policy towards legislation to secure for residents in mobile homes greater security of tenure.

Mr. Eyre

As my right hon. Friend the Minister for Local Government and Development indicated in a reply to a Question from the hon. Member for New-castle-under-Lyme (Mr. Golding) on 18th October, 1971, the Government have decided against future legislation on this matter. Legislation to increase security or control rents might well be harmful to the long-term interests of caravan residents by diminishing the supply of sites.—[Vol. 823, c.75.]
