HC Deb 04 July 1972 vol 840 c91W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has received the correspondence from Mrs. E. N. Pennington, St. Helens, regarding the use of the Iron Maiden which fetters sows to the ground for from four to seven weeks; whether he has replied; and what assurances he gave to the constituent of the hon. Member for St. Helens.

Mr. Peter Mills

My right hon. Friend received a letter from Mrs. Pennington asking him to give very serious thought to the use of the so-called Iron Maiden. The reply sent on his behalf assured Mrs. Pennington that this had been noted, but if Mrs. Pennington remains uneasy I should be glad to write to her further on this matter.
