HC Deb 04 July 1972 vol 840 cc78-9W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many complaints of infringement of an employee's right to join a trade union have been made to the industrial tribunals since the relevant Sections of the Industrial Relations Act came into force.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

Between 28th February and 26th May industrial tribunals received 136 complaints about infringement of trade union membership rights under Section 5 of the Act. In addition, 12 complaints were made direct to conciliation officers of my Department. These figures cover complaints relating to both the right to belong and the right not to belong to a trade union; separate figures for the former are not yet available.
