HC Deb 04 July 1972 vol 840 c115W
Mr. Thorpe

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps are being taken to obtain the recognition by outside bodies and organisations of training courses undertaken by borstal and prison inmates.

Mr. Carlisle

Vocational courses in prisons and borstals in England and Wales have been recognised for many years by outside examining bodies. Recently, adjustments have been made to some syllabuses to meet the requirements of industry training boards. Some boards and trade unions have already recognised the revised courses, and discussions with others are still in progress.
