LORD BETHELL

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How the selection will be made of a national or local collection at which a work of art accepted in lieu of death duty will be displayed.

THE PAYMASTER GENERAL (VISCOUNT ECCLES)

The Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries will be asked for their advice. In the light of that advice I will decide in the case of collections in England. My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and my right honourable and learned friend the Secretary of State for Wales will decide similarly for collections in Scotland and Wales.

House adjourned at twenty-one minutes past ten o'clock.
