§ 72. Dame Patricia Hornsby-Smithasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will investigate the desirability of introducing regulations to ensure that pre-packed perishable food should be clearly marked, and not merely coded, with the last date on which it can be safely consumed.
§ Mr. Anthony StodartAs stated in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Flint, West (Sir A. Meyer) on 7th December, 1971, the Food Standards Committee is already engaged in a review of the date marking of food. In its interim report of May, 1971, the Committee said that there is no evidence of any significant health hazard arising from the absence of a compulsory date marking system.—[Vol. 827, c. 1113–14.]
