Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) whether the Welsh Hospital Board, as recommended by its working party, is taking full account of population fluctuations, travelling times and distances, when considering the appointment of paediatricians and the development of children's departments. particularly those in West Wales;

(2) what action has been taken by the Welsh Hospital Board to carry out, in accordance with the interim recommendations of its working party, an urgent upgrading of children's wards which lack specialist staff and appropriate facilities.
