HC Deb 27 January 1972 vol 829 c521W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will accept an invitation to attend the Scottish Assembly on Unemployment to be held on Monday, 14th February, at Edinburgh.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I received an invitation, as a Member of Parliament, from the General Secretary of the General Council of the Scottish Trades Union Congress to attend a conference on unemployment on 14th February. The invitation indicated that one purpose of the conference was to prepare a "charter of demands" to the Government. I replied that it would clearly be wrong for me, as a member of the Government, to take part in this; but that I shall be extremely interested to follow what happens at the conference.

The General Secretary has replied to say that the difficulty about a Minister attending is clearly understood.
