§ Mr. David HowellAt 1st July, 1971, there were some 483,500 non-industrial civil servants employed in Great Britain. The approximate numbers employed in the development areas (including special development areas) were:
For the South-West region as a whole the figure was 41,000. Information about the location of staff relates to the numbers in specific towns and to the numbers in the rest of the region concerned (e.g., the South-West as a whole). Separate information for civil servants in the designated development area in the South-West is not held centrally and would be costly to collect.
