§ Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he is taking to deal with the incidence of sub-acute myelo-optic neuropathy and its possible cause by Clioquinol and the inclusion of this ingredient in a commonly used diarrhoea mixture.
§ Mr. AlisonI am aware of reports which suggest that a serious outbreak of sub-acute myelo-optic neuropathy in Japan may possibly be associated with the use of Clioquinol. I do not know of any incidence in the United Kingdom, but the Committee on Safety of370W Medicines has the matter under consideration and we are awaiting its advice.
