§ 65. Mr. Millanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about future financial assistance to the Scottish National Camps Association.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellSince the Association's school camps, built as temporary accommodation in 1939, can now have only a very limited life and, since needs for outdoor education are changing, I have asked the Association's member bodies for their views on the future of the camps generally. In the meantime, it seems appropriate that the running costs of the camps should be met by the education authorities and other bodies using them. I therefore decided last year, after consultation with the Association, that the annual Exchequer grant towards these costs should be reduced from £30,000 in 1971 to a maximum of £20,000 in 1972 and £10,000 in 1973 and discontinued altogether in 1974.
