§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will seek powers to enable all local borough councillors, county councillors and other public representatives to claim an £8.50p daily tax-free allowance when attending at meetings or carrying out their public duties.
§ Mr. Graham PageNo. My right hon. Friend is seeking powers by Clause 167 of the Local Government Bill now before the House to enable all councillors, on 177W reorganisation, to claim a flat-rate attendance allowance in place of the present financial loss allowance. The maximum amount of the allowance will be determined nearer to the time it becomes payable.
