§ Mr. Dudley SmithAt December, 1971, the latest date for which information is available, the number of notified vacancies remaining unfilled in the area covered by the Newcastle-under-Lyme employment exchange was 329 (82 for men, 13 for boys, 154 for women and 80 for girls) and the number of people registered as wholly unemployed was 1,326 (1083 men, 45 boys, 172 women and 26 girls). The vacancy statistics relate only to notified vacancies remaining unfilled and do not purport to measure the total unsatisfied demand for labour.
