§ Mr. SharplesThe effect of the Ireland Act, 1949, is that citizens of the Republic of Ireland are not aliens in our law and so have none of the disabilities or incapacities of aliens; but under the Commonwealth Immigrants Act, 1962, they are liable to deportation on conviction and recommendation by a court if they have not then been ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom throughout the preceding five years.
