§ 54. Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will seek to amend the Human Tissue Act with a view to increasing the number of kidneys available to the 2,000 patients who die annually from kidney disease.
§ Sir K. JosephNo. After careful examination of the matter I have reached the conclusion that the provision of an adequate supply of kidneys is not a question of legislation but of motivation and education. I have therefore arranged for steps to be taken to establish whether an effective and acceptable donor recruitment scheme can be devised.
