HC Deb 17 February 1972 vol 831 cc163-4W
Mr. Elysian Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what studies have been made by him or any of his Government Departments into the causes, prevention, treatment and cure of farmer's lung.

Mr. Alison

My Department is supporting investigations into the disease farmer's lung which have been carried out by the Public Health Laboratory Service Board over a period of six years.

The Medical Research Council is supporting various studies in farmer's lung. Its Pneumoconiosis Unit at Llandough Hospital, Penarth, Glamorgan, is coordinating field studies, one of which is being carried out at Machynlleth Chest Hospital.

I am also aware of some work being undertaken by hospital authorities under the locally organised clinical research scheme.
