§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will institute machinery whereby it will in future be possible to ascertain how many and what percentage of shoppers charged with shoplifting are prosecuted privately, how many and what percentage are prosecuted by the police, and how many and what percentage of each category were acquitted.
