HC Deb 14 February 1972 vol 831 cc36-7W
Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will estimate the average cost per pupil in two-teacher primary schools and all primary schools, respectively, in England and Wales in the latest year for which figures are available, and the average cost per secondary pupil.

Mr. van Straubenzee

The average cost per pupil in England and Wales in 1970–71 is estimated by the Institute of Municipal Treasurers and Accountants at £102.25 in primary and £187.57 in secondary schools.

Separate figures for two-teacher primary schools could not be obtained without disproportionate effort and cost.
