HC Deb 08 February 1972 vol 830 c326W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will undertake a study of the effect on safety at airports, in particular Foulness, of bird strikes, of the proximity of natural bird sanctuaries, and of the effect of aircraft movements on birds' flocking habits.

Mr. Noble

I have been asked to reply.

The hazard of bird strikes, particularly at airports, is a matter for continuing study by an interdepartmental committee. 'The proximity of natural bird sanctuaries and the effect of aircraft movements on birds' flocking habits are taken into account in these studies. Arrangements have already been made for a survey to start shortly of bird movements and habits within a radius of 30 miles from the projected site at Maplin.
