§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many executive officers and clerical officers, respectively, were employed by the Supplementary Benefits Commission in July, 1970, and at successive three-month intervals thereafter.
§ Sir K. JosephDue to the advanced programme of integration of contributory benefit and supplementary benefit local offices it is no longer possible separately to identify the staff engaged specifically on either type of work, and to provide a reliable estimate of apportionment would involve an inordinate amount of work. The numbers of executive officers and clerical officers employed in my Department on social security work, other than on central administration, on the dates mentioned were as follows:
Date Executive Officers Clerical Officers 1st July, 1970 12,026 28,595 1st October, 1970 12,211 28,595 1st January, 1971 12,147 28,721 1st April, 1971 12,273 29,017 1st July, 1971 12,605 29,679 1st October, 1971 12,644 29,726 1st January, 1972 12,678 30,039
