§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking to encourage local authorities to train specialist social workers for dealing with the particular problems of the deaf.
§ Sir K. JosephLocal authorities generally are aware of the need to make available suitably qualified staff for training in work with the deaf, and my officers are actively encouraging them to do so. Moreover, the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work is at present considering the form of training most appropriate for social workers in this field.
