I am pleased to be able to say that we have agreed to make available substantial funds over the next six or seven years to encourage the development of integrated circuits specially designed for particular applications by British semiconductor manufacturers. Expenditure up to £10 million over the period is envisaged subject to the normal processes of review. Discussions with the industry are well advanced.
