HL Deb 20 December 1972 vol 337 cc1192-3WA
THE LORD BISHOP OF ROCHESTER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How early in 1973 the long-awaited inquiry into the route of the A.223 road connecting the A.2 and the A.20, will take place; and whether they are aware of the mounting inconvenience and frustration which delay in the completion of the second half of this busy road is causing.

LORD SANDFORD

Her Majesty's Government are well aware of the need to improve this route but the initiative lies with the London Borough of Bexley as highway authority. A public inquiry cannot take place until the Council has applied for planning permission to construct the proposed by-pass and link road and has made a Compulsory Purchase Order for the necessary land. It accordingly seems unlikely that any inquiry could take place before the latter part of 1973.

It is understood that the Council hope to start the works in 1974.
