HC Deb 18 December 1972 vol 848 c275W
Mr. Body

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether it is the practice for all persons registering as unemployed to be asked to disclose the income they received in their previous employment, and whether these figures are collated or the persons registered as unemployed classified according to their previous earnings.

Mr. Dudley Smith

To assist in matching registrants with vacancies, it is normal practice to ascertain the level of previous earnings. Information so obtained is neither collated nor used to classify the unemployed. The earnings level is used, however, in determining whether a sales representative should be assisted by the Professional and Executive Recruitment or the General Employment Service.
