HC Deb 18 December 1972 vol 848 c276W
Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total number of foreign student employees; and what is the number from the nine countries of the enlarged European Economic Community who have been admitted as student employees, under the conditions laid down in paragraphs 8 and 9 of his Department's circular AR 100.

Mr. Dudley Smith

The total number of foreign student employees admitted is not known. The number of work permits issued for student employment in the last three years is as follows:

Total EEC
1970 6,747 3,367
1971 5,918 2,692
1972 (January-November) 5,120 2,399

Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what changes will be made in the regulations regarding foreign student employees, laid down in circular AR 100, as a result of Great Britain's entry into the Common Market.

Mr. Dudley Smith

There will be no change in the regulations for nationals of countries outside the European Economic Community. After 1st January 1973 the regulations will not apply to nationals of member States and they will not require work permits.
