asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what consideration is being given to possible changes in air transport policy as a result of joining the European Economic Community; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Onslow

The transport provisions of the EEC Treaty have not been activated for air transport: to do so would depend upon a unanimous decision by the Council of Ministers under Article 84 of the Treaty of Rome. The commission has advanced a proposal for study of air transport, which is under examination by my Department with the British interests concerned and internationally. There is already close collaboration on air transport in Europe, bilaterally and through the European Civil Aviation Conference.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he is taking to persuade the European Economic Community to accept that cotton yarn is not a raw material; and if he will make a statement.

Imports of cotton yarn from those Mediterranean countries which have agreements with the European Economic Community will, no later than 1st April 1973, enter the United Kingdom free of quota restrictions.
