§ Mr. KershawDuring the financial year 1960–61 £150,000 was paid by Her Majesty's Government as a contribution to the assisted passage scheme to Australia. The same contribution was made to the scheme in the financial years 1965–66 and 1971–72.
Additionally, in the financial year 1960–61 provision was made to assist the settlement of emigrant children from the United Kingdom in Australia, Canada and Southern Rhodesia. Details of the expenditure of £14,267 in that year are not available. In 1965–66 provision was made for expenditure of £11,000. In 1971–72 the sum of £2,502 was expended in assisting the settlement of children in Australia. No expenditure in relation to Rhodesia was incurred.
Additionally, in the same year loans previously made under the Act totalling £49,700 to voluntary societies concerned with the settlement of children in Australia were converted to grants.
