HC Deb 18 December 1972 vol 848 cc290-1W
Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether a hospital management committee accepts responsibility if a nurse is injured in an ambulance in the ownership of a local authority whilst accompanying a patient from one hospital to another.

Mr. Alison

A hospital nurse would be regarded as on duty when required to accompany a patient in an ambulance from one hospital to another and in the event of injury would be covered by the normal provisions for paid sick leave. If the injury resulted in permanent incapacity for employment the nurse would be entitled to payment under the injury allowance scheme currently under consideration by the Joint Superannuation Consultative Committee.
