HL Deb 14 December 1972 vol 337 cc809-10WA
LORD ORR-EWING

asked:

When Her Majesty's Government are expecting the further report that they have called for on the future of the United Kingdom shipbuilding industry; and when they will announce the measures they will take to match the actions that overseas Governments have taken to stimulate their own shipbuilding industries.

LORD DRUMALBYN

We expect to receive the consultants' report on the shipbuilding industry by about the end of the year. The Government will then consider the report and formulate a policy for the industry in the light of it, taking account of what overseas Governments do to support their own shipbuilding industries. Preliminary indications are that the level of financial assistance available to the United Kingdom shipbuilding industry compares favourably with that available overseas.

House adjourned at six minutes before six O'clock.
