Mrs. Knightasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will specify the safety measures that are laid down in legislative form to protect the eyesight of children and students, whilst engaged in activities of a practical nature in laboratories and workshops of schools and colleges, coming within the Education Act 1944.
§ Mr. St. John-StevasThere are no statutory or regulatory provisions which apply in these circumstances. My Department gives advice on this matter through its publications and through contact between Her Majesty's inspectors of schools and local education authorities, schools and colleges.
