HC Deb 12 December 1972 vol 848 cc128-9W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make an immediate statement on the direct effects of found structural faults in the taxiway at Edinburgh airport, and on the effect the delay in announcing his decision on the new estimated £9 million extension to the runway and terminal buildings will have on work required to be done to bring the taxiway into commission.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

I have been asked to reply.

I understand from the British Airports Authority that a 2,400 ft. section of the taxiway has had to be closed because of structural failure. It follows that there will be some delay at busy periods. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State will announce his decision on the BAA planning application in the near future and the nature and timing of remedial works on the existing taxiway will be decided in the light of that decision.
