66. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the number of general practitioners in the Yorkshire and Humberside region; and how the figure compares with the national average per 100,000 of the population.

Mr. Alison

At 1st October 1971 the number of general practitioners in the Yorkshire and Humberside region was 1,938 giving 40.30 doctors per 100,000 population.

The corresponding figures for England at the same date were 19,374 and 42.04 respectively.

Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many general practitioners there are in the area covered by the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board; and how that figure compares with the national average per 100,000 of the population.

Mr. Alison

At 1st October 1971 the number of general practitioners in the area covered by the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board was 1,788, giving 38.42 doctors per 100,000 population.

The corresponding figures for England at the same date were 19,374 and 42.04 respectively.
