McAddenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he is aware of the financial restrictions already imposed and those proposed to be imposed on British subjects in measures before the Maltese Parliament; and whether he 535W will introduce reciprocal measures affecting Maltese residents in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. AmeryI am aware that legislation is at present before the Maltese Parliament. The operation of exchange controls in Malta is a matter for the Maltese Government. But the Maltese Prime Minister has made clear in Parliament that the legislation is of an enabling nature, and the Maltese authorities have stated that current exchange control arrangements will be practically unchanged. The normal United Kingdom exchange control rules for overseas sterling area countries apply to Malta.
