§ 27. Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to publish notes for guidance of people liable to deportation in a number of languages and arrange for them to be issued to every deportee or potential deportee.
§ Mr. LaneI do not think that this would be appropriate. The notices about eligibility for deportation or rights of 479W appeal which, by statute, are supplied to persons concerned are in English. But advice is available to those who need help in understanding them; and a translation, of itself, would not usually be sufficient since those concerned may well be unfamiliar with our legal processes.
