HC Deb 04 December 1972 vol 847 cc298-9W
Mr. Alexander Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many men, women, boys and girls, respectively, are on waiting lists for entry into Government training centres in Scotland, and for each centre, at the latest date.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

I have been asked to reply. The number of men on waiting lists for entry to Government Training Centres in Scotland at 13th November was as follows:

Government Training Centre Number of men on waiting list
Bellshill 280
Dumbarton 92
Dundee 133
Dunfermline 164
Edinburgh 297
Glasgow (Hillington) 374
Irvine 82
Port Glasgow 85
Queenslie 433
1,940

There were no women or boys and girls on these waiting lists: practically all training provided for women in Scotland under the training opportunities scheme is in colleges of further education, and applicants for courses at Government training centres must normally be aged 19 years or over.
