HC Deb 04 December 1972 vol 847 c323W
Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what guidance she is offering to local education authorities on methods of selection for those grammar schools which are to be preserved within an otherwise comprehensive system.

Mrs. Thatcher

None. It is for an authority to decide what methods of selection to adopt. The legal requirement is that a child should receive education suitable to his age, ability and aptitude.
