§ Dr. Millerasked the Secretary of State for Scotland which local authorities have embarked upon schemes of rehabilitation of older houses; if he is satisfied with progress made; and what encouragement he is giving to those local authorities which are anxious to use this method of increasing their housing stock in addition to the building of new houses.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellIn the twelve months to 30th September, 1972, I have approved proposals for improving 32,259 houses made by the corporations of the four counties of cities; the councils of 21 counties, 17 large burghs and 97 small burghs, and two new town corporations. I am sending the hon. Member a list of these authorities.
339WThis compares very favourably with 18,926 house improvements approved in the preceding twelve months. I hope this trend will continue and will be stimulated by the Housing (Amendment) Bill, which provides that the higher rates of grant under the Housing Act 1971 will be available for a further year, to 23rd June, 1974.
