asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will list those remaining posts in the non-industrial Civil Service for which women are still considered unsuitable; and what action he is taking to end the exclusion.

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what capital sum payments are made to the estates of civil servants who die before retirement.

The capital sum payable on the death of a serving civil servant is one year's pay or, if greater, the lump sum which would have been paid on medical retirement. This sum, less any outstanding contributions to the widows' scheme, is payable to the surviving wife or husband, if the civil servant has so nominated; otherwise it is payable to the personal representatives of the deceased.

Service which currently are not open to women are listed below. In consultation with my colleagues, I shall continue to review these posts with a view to reducing them.
