asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the railway lines in Wales at present receiving grant aid under the Transport Act where the grant expires on 31st December, 1972.

Grant undertakings for the following rail passenger services in Wales expire on 31st December, 1972:

  • Services wholly in Wales
    1. 1. Whitland-Pembroke Dock.
    2. 2. Cardiff-Penarth.
    3. 3. Cardiff-Rhymney.
    4. 4. Cardiff-Coryton.
    5. 5. Barry Island-Cardiff-Treherbert/ Merthyr.

  • Services partly in Wales
    1. 1. Cardiff-Gloucester.
    2. 2. Cardiff-Bristol.
    3. 3. Shrewsbury-Aberystwyth.
    4. 4. Wrexharn-New Brighton/Birkenhead North.
    5. 5. Wolverhampton-Shrewsbury-Wrexham-Chester.

These are all under consideration for renewal and an announcement will be made early in the New Year.
